Bound and Betrayed

During my visit to the Holy Land, one of our stops was the house of Caiaphas, the High Priest to whom Jesus was taken after Judas betrayed Him in the garden. The tour led us down into a cistern where Jesus may have been held before being taken to Pontius Pilate.

From the bottom of the pit, looking up, there was a small opening where a thin ray of light shone through. In my mind, I could see Christ—bound—being painfully lowered into that darkness.
